Update 0.9.4: ECONOMY UPDATE

Archetype Changes

- Numerous small changes made to duration damage, and ability affects for balance.

BIOSCIENTIST

  • Gene Code Packages have been renamed to "Bio Packages" to prevent confusion with the Gene Code crafting material.
  • F.A.E. range standardized across all packages. The maximum range is now 10 meters.

CARDSHARP

  • Cardsharp has been changed from a Social/Mind class to a Social/Body class. This was done so that Cardsharps can easily spec into the Acrobatics skill tree, which fits the archetype thematically. (To compensate for Cardsharps losing Mind as their secondary Attribute, a trick has been added at the entry level of the Aplomb skill tree to make it a Social skill. This is available to everyone, not just Cardsharps.)
  • The Trick Snake Eyes (Aplomb) has been removed it's a little bit fiddly. Instead, a new trick called Blind Confidence, which helps with accruing Gambler's Luck, has been added.

COURTIER

Changes to Courtier were focused on making the Archetype feel a little more "snappy" and polished to play, without getting bogged down in the details. I also wanted to make sure that Courtiers have opportunities to shine in a typical one-shot. A Courtier will always be the most rewarding to play in a long campaign, but it was a priority of this update to make sure that they have abilities to bring to a single night of gaming.

  • Contacts in the Address Book have been simplified. Each contact now gives the Courtier a different thematic ability once a day, called Favors. Some Favors are always available, and others require the ability to speak to your contact in some way.
  • Social Capital has been reworked. Instead of it accruing and being spend during each conversation, now Courtiers begin the day with a fixed amount, determined by the number of contacts in their Address Book. They can spend it for bonuses in dialog or to cash in on one of their Favors. This guarantees that even if a Courtier is in a position where they can't reach any of their contacts, they can still spend their Social Capital to have an immediate impact on the game.
  • Reputation is no longer calculated on a per-contact basis. Instead, there is a scale from Underground to Mainstream that the Courtier moves along after making major decisions in the campaign. Each contact in their Address Book responds to these changes in a specific way. If the Courtier is more in line with a contact's values, they will get bonuses. If they move too far in the opposite direct, they may lose access to some of their contacts until they change their Reputation again.

ENGINEER

Engineers themselves did not get substantial changes. However, Drone rules were greatly streamlined in this update with the addition of combat rules for Minions. The Drone stat block was reworked to clearly show what upgrades are available for a Drone of any given size.

  • Standardized Drone skill bonus as Engineer's Proficiency Bonus.

Skill Changes

  • Numerous Trick changes and additions. Most skill sets are complete now.
  • Mechanics for training skills have been added. There is a monetary cost to receiving formal training, but Martians have a citizenship perk that includes free education at the university on Mars.
  • Added descriptions of each skill to the sections in the Archetype pages.

Combat Changes

  • Combat scale has been changed so 1 square on a board = 1 meter. I All abilities have been adjusted to reflect this change, so you will notice many abilities appear to half as far as before. On a battle map, the distance is actually unchanged, unless the ability received a separate adjustment.
  • Actions are no longer classified as Active, Neutral and Passive. The term "Passive Action" is still used in a few places to describe something that does not require spending an Action to do.
  • The following conditions have been added: Enchanted, Paralyzed, Poisoned, Restrained and Stabilized.
  • Added rules for commanding Minions in combat. Minions are drones, NPCs under an Enchanted condition, or anyone else you have total control of on the battlefield. Commanding a minion doesn't cost an Action, and each Minion has 1 action of its own it can spend. You can donate Actions to your Minions.

Equipment Changes

The entire economy of the game has been overhauled, and everything has been re-priced accordingly.

  • Lifestyles have been updated not only to provide a tax for people who don't want to do accounting, but also to provide a frame of reference for income and money. The median income is around 8,000 - 10,000 guilders a year.
  • A few Pre-Built Drones have been added to the Equipment section. More may come in future updates.
  • Ship upgrades and ammunition added
  • Relics added. Relics are special items that have supernatural effects. There are several relics here for you to play with, although some of them require some additional work.

MISC Changes

  • Trick Tracker sheet added
  • Character sheets updated
  • Formatting changed to accommodate book binding
  • copywritten images removed
  • Changed word spellings to be more international (Armour instead of armor, metre instead of meter, etc)
  • Rearranged some things to be alphabetical
  • "Z-Pak" has been changed to "EM-Med" since Z-Pak is a copywritten term

What's Next?

  • Gambling mini-game mechanics
  • Finish the Trick trees for remaining skills that need them
